Congratulations to Team UWA for winning the 2016 University Games. Their impressive win backs up the Western University Games championship title they secured earlier this year.

Over 5,000 athletes from 41 universities across Australia took part in the flagship event on the national university sporting calendar. Team UWA’s 520 athletes competed in 32 sports on home soil – the first time the games have been hosted in Perth for six years.

“The week was full of exceptional performances and the usual highs and lows that come with sport.

“We’re so proud of Team UWA for taking the win at home, and we had so many students out in force in the Fan Zone which was I know was a real motivator for the team.

“There was 200 points between Team UWA and our closest rivals, which really highlights how dominate the team was,” says Rhys Hyatt, UWA Sport Marketing Manager.

The icing on the cake was forty-two Team UWA athletes being awarded green and gold titles at the closing ceremony for their performance and fair play.

Well done to everyone involved!
