Brad Rosser has reported to Sir Richard Branson while working for Virgin, created start-ups for Unilever, and raised over £1 billion through various start-up investments over the course of his career.

And last month, Rosser shared his expertise with UWA Business School alumni at the inaugural UWA Business School Young Alumni event.

Almost 100 graduates aged between 20 and 35 gathered to hear from Rosser, who graduated from the UWA Business School with an honours degree in Accounting and Finance in the 1980s.

After earning a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University, Rosser began working for Alan Bond - an experience he describes as "a roller coaster ride."

Following this was time at McKinsey and Co, Virgin and Unilever-as well as forays into music, online branding, gyms, property and financial services.

The first step in his success, said Rosser, was studying at a world-class business school.

"Business school sets you up with great contacts and can open doors," Rosser said. "It gives you both credibility and the ability to get things done.

"Networking face-to-face, rather than through the internet, is really important. It's easier to do things with partners and other people rather than sitting on your own in the dark."

Rosser encouraged future entrepreneurs to be persistent in their efforts, telling attendees that creating new business can bring a range of benefits.

"I believe that people who build businesses are the cornerstone of every prosperous economy," Rosser says on his website.

Marie Claire Bennetts, the Alumni Relations and Executive Officer of the UWA Business School's Ambassadorial Council, says the newly created Young Alumni chapter will help recent graduates build their careers.

"This network will see a series of events designed to gather recent graduates together to provide support in their career journey as well as create a powerful network of future leaders not only locally, but nationally and globally," Marie Claire said.

The UWA Business School Young Alumni event was held on 19 August at Woodside Plaza in Perth.
