Ms Renae Barker, Lecturer in law at the University of Western Australia's Law School, has been appointed Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre for Muslim States and Societies at UWA.

Ms Barker's appointment links the Centre for Muslim States and Societies to the Faculty of Law, reinforcing the University's research culture across all disciplines.

Ms Barker's interests include law and religion. This includes the issue of the wearing of the burqa in western liberal democracies, and especially where this intersects with the legal system. She has recently completed her PhD at UWA which examined the history of the legal state-religion relationship in Australia.
