Former University of Western Australia Vice-Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Alan Robson , and leading women's and children's health expert, Winthrop Professor John Newnham , are among UWA academics and graduates to be awarded 2013 Queen's Birthday Honours.

Professor Robson, already a Member (AM) in the General Division of the Order of Australia, was made an Officer (AO) in the General Division for distinguished service to tertiary education through governance and administrative roles, to the advancement of scientific and medical research, and to the community.

Professor Newnham, Head of the School of Women's and Infants' Health, was made a Member (AM) in the General Division for significant service in the field of obstetrics.

Emeritus Professor Norm Etherington , former UWA Chair of History, was also made a Member (AM) in the General Division for significant service to education, particularly in the discipline of history, through contributions to heritage preservation and to the community.

UWA graduates to be made a Member (AM) in the General Division include:

Former State Attorney-General, Health Minister and Opposition Leader, The Honourable Jim McGinty, who graduated with a BA (History) in 1970, a BJuris (Hons) in 1990 and an LLB in 1991, for significant service to the Parliament of Western Australia, to law reform, and to the community.

Mr Peter Knight , who graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering in 1961 and was 1995 West Australian Citizen of the Year, a former managing director of Clough Ltd, a board member of the St Georges College Foundation and director of St Bartholemew's House, for significant service to the community, particularly through support to the homeless, and to engineering.

Mrs Joy Anderson , a lactation consultant and volunteer breastfeeding counsellor who graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1973 and a DipEd in 1974, for significant service to community health and education, particularly through the Australian Breastfeeding Association.

In addition, Dr Douglas McInnes , who graduated with a PhD in Civil Engineering in 1972, received a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the General Division for service to geotechnical engineering and a range of professional organisations, and Ms Amanda Cattermole (MBA, 2011), was awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) for outstanding public service in leading reform of the provision of housing for Indigenous people in remote communities and the National Gambling Reform Laws.
