A $24.25 million Centre of Excellence in the History of the Emotions at The University of Western Australia will be opened next week.

Directed by UWA historian, Winthrop Professor Philippa Maddern of the School of Humanities, the Centre represents the biggest humanities grant made by the Australian Research Council.

Although based at UWA, the Centre has research collaborations with partners including the ABC, West Australian Opera and the National Gallery of Victoria.

The Centre's research seeks to better understand the culture of modern Australia by studying the heritage of Europe from 1100 - 1800.
