Applications for the second round of the 2010 Endeavour Awards for Postgraduate students and Postdoctoral researchers will open on 1 December 2009 and close on 30 January 2010 for funding in 2010. The 2011 round will open in April 2010.  The success rates for many of these awards are very high!

The December round is for: International and Australian applicants applying for an Endeavour Executive Award; and Australian applicants applying for an Endeavour Research Fellowship.

Awards are offered in a broad range of disciplines for travel and study/ research in participating countries in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East, including New Zealand and Turkey .

Success Rates : These vary from year to year and some applications are deemed ineligible if they are directed towards the wrong scheme or of poor quality.

2010 Research Fellowships for Australians: 48 of 51 eligible applications funded.
2010 Executive Awards for Australians: 19 of 29 eligible applications funded.

Eligibility : See below for the range of schemes and eligibility requirements. NB For post-doctoral research there is no restriction on numbers of years since the PhD was awarded. Applicants must have received their PhD before commencement of the project. There is a helpful list of Frequently Asked Questions on the website. NB. Be careful to select the right scheme for you and contact the Endeavour Office if you are unsure if you should be applying for a Fellowship or an Executive Award.

Countries : There is a specific list of countries eligible for the scheme including those in Asia, Pacific and the Middle East, New Zealand, Japan, and Turkey.

Summary of all Endeavour Awards : This is a useful table of all awards available including those which will be offered next year but not in December this year. These include Post Doctoral and Endeavour Europe Awards for international applicants.

Endeavour Research Fellowships
(Included in December Round)

Endeavour Research Fellowships provide financial support for postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from Australia to undertake short-term research (4-6 months), in any field of study, in participating countries in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East. Aimed at building international linkages and networks, these Awards provide opportunities for Award Holders to further develop their knowledge and skills.

Endeavour Research Fellowships for Indigenous Australians
(Might be included in December round)

The Endeavour Research Fellowships for Indigenous Australians provide financial support for Indigenous postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows to undertake short-term research (4-6 months), in any field of study. The research must be undertaken in participating countries in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East.

Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowships
(Not included in December Round)

The Endeavour Australia Cheung Kong Research Fellowships provide financial support for postgraduate students and postdoctoral fellows from Australia to undertake short-term research (4-6 months), in any field of study, in participating Asian countries.

Endeavour Executive Awards
(Included in December Round)

These provide professional development opportunities for high achieving Australians in business, industry, education or government. This Award provides applicants with the flexibility to design a program that advances both their professional and personal goals. In consultation with your international host organisation, the 1 to 4 month program may include activities such as management training, work placement, attendance at a conference, participation in a short course, or peer-to-peer learning. Up to $20,000 may be awarded.

INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

International applicants applying for an Endeavour Award for study, research or professional development activities in Australia must be citizens or permanent residents of a participating country and reside in a participating country for the relevant Award. Applicants who are permanent residents of Australia or are currently living, working or studying in Australia are not eligible to apply as international applicants.

Endeavour Executive Awards
(Included in December Round)

The Endeavour Executive Awards provide professional development opportunities (1-4 months) for high achievers in business, industry, education or government from participating countries, including Australia. The Awards focus on building skills and knowledge through a host work environment rather than through formal enrolment in a study program at a host institution and are not intended to fund direct academic research. Professional development activities could include management training, peer-to-peer learning, mentoring, short courses and developing leadership skills.

STUDENT EXCHANGES

To encourage greater student mobility, the Australian Government funds Australian higher education providers to subsidise the costs to students participating in student exchanges which include tuition fee waiver and credit transfer.

Only Australian higher education providers are eligible to apply for funding for International Student Exchange Programs.

Students (Australian and international) wishing to apply for student subsidies available under the International Student Exchange Programs should contact the International Office of their institution. UWA International Centre website .
