The Faculty would like to offer our congratulations to Winthrop Professor Liang Cheng who has been appointed to the position of Head of School of Civil and Resource Engineering.

Liang Cheng received his BE from TsingHua University (1983), Masters (1986) and PhD (1990) in Civil Engineering from Dalian University of Technology in China. Subsequently, he worked in Gifu University in Japan as a Postdoctoral Fellow. Liang commenced his appointment at UWA in 1992 as a Research Associate.

Currently, Liang is the leader of the Hydraulics Group in the School of Civil and Resource Engineering. His main research area covers sediment transport in river and ocean environments, scour around structures, erosion modelling, hydrodynamic forces on structures, computational fluid dynamics and sand wave modelling.

The Faculty wishes Winthrop Professor Cheng many successes in his new position.
