Thirteen Deans from six agricultural universities around China will be at The University of Western Australia for a three-day workshop on agricultural research and education from tomorrow.

The workshop aims to develop plans for collaborative research in livestock agriculture and pastures; and plant biology and agriculture.

The visiting Deans will deliver papers at the workshop, and UWA agricultural researchers will discuss issues including ‘Clean, Green and Ethical Animal Production'.

UWA presenters include UWA's Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Winthrop Professor Tony O'Donnell ; as well as Winthrop Professor Kadambot Siddique (Director of UWA's Institute of Agriculture); Winthrop Professor Graeme Martin (Animal Production Systems Program Leader); and Winthrop Professor Hans Lambers (Head of the School of Plant Biology).

UWA is a world-leading institution for agricultural research, with the number of papers published in the area in leading science journals exceeding that of any other Australian university.

"Agriculture has been a major strength at UWA, nurtured over many years by a succession of innovative agricultural scientists," Professor O'Donnell said.

"Through the Institute of Agriculture, UWA uses advances in fundamental and applied science to inform its teaching and to develop collaborative research initiatives.

These initiatives - with industry and grower groups - deliver new technologies to farmers locally, nationally and internationally."
