The annual Relay for Life UWA event is back for 2017 and will be held over the weekend of 14-15 October. UWA's new Academic Promotions College is a forward-thinking initiative to provide guidance and coaching on the University's promotion framework for academic staff looking to enhance their careers at the University.
Professor Erika Techera was UWA’s first female Dean of Law, and at the start of the year she made another groundbreaking step when she was appointed Director of the Oceans Institute.
The environmental lawyer is relishing the opportunity to not only lead the Institute but also drive the University’s involvement in the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC), a collaboration of multidisciplinary research teams from UWA, CSIRO, AIMS and Fisheries.
This is a way of working that suits Erika’s style and philosophy perfectly.
Eighteen months ago Jeremy Rigg came on board as Associate Director of UWA’s new Risk and Legal team. With degrees in Law and Science and seven years’ previous experience working at Murdoch University, Jeremy (a UWA graduate) has an appreciation of the wide-ranging issues universities face.
“Our role is to operate as a business partner and work with professional and academic staff on these matters while taking a strategic university-wide approach,” he says.
Four UWA professors have been elected Fellows of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (ASSA). Fellows are elected to the Academy by their peers on the basis of a distinguished contribution to one or more of the social sciences.
