UWA EXTENSION SPRING SCHOOL

‘CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE: THINK FUTURE, ACT NOW’ - LECTURES BEGIN OCTOBER 23-24

Australia’s most prominent climate change speakers and activists will speak at the UWA Extension lecture series CHANGE CLIMATE CHANGE: THINK FUTURE, ACT NOW. Don't miss this opportunity to hear four of Australia's most prominent speakers and activists on critical issues associated with climate change, Bill Mollison, Peter Andrews, Callum Coats and John Law.

The acceleration of climate change in the last decade has created wide spread debate all over the globe. The rate of global climate change that has been experienced over this time frame has the potential to have a major impact on human and natural systems throughout the world including Australia. This lecture series will highlight issues of climate change in Australia and methods in which environmental change can be managed in Australia and potentially be applied globally.

Bill Mollison is widely known as founder of the Permaculture Institute. Environmental scientist, lecturer, author and researcher, Bill has initiated numerous ecological projects around the world and has received many major awards.

Peter Andrews is author of Back from the Brink, in which he describes his radical new approach to restoring our deteriorating environment and sustaining us as a nation into the future. Peter's work was shown on the ABC's 'Australian Story' and became the most popular feature in the program's history.

Callum Coates, scientist and author of Living Energies, spent many years collating and editing the works of the brilliant Austrian forester, scientist and inventor Victor Schauberger. Callum explores Schauberger's predictions on deforestation and his ground-breaking work on water systems, energy and resources.

John Law is a rehabilitation expert and Managing Director of Minesite Rehabilitation Services. John will discuss his work as director of a $10 million Japanese financed project to assess the potential of arid lands as carbon sinks to mitigate global warming, the promising results and the restrictions imposed by Australia's reluctance to join the Kyoto protocol.

Dr Peter Dingle, a regular presenter on health and environmental issues in the Australian media, will chair the series.
