The Business School welcomes Brenna Pavey as the GMA's new President for 2007. In this edition we thought it timely to remind everyone what the GMA is all about and the exciting year ahead!

For more information on the GMA and how to join, view our revamped website at https://www.gma.asn.au/

What is the Graduate Management Association (GMA)?

The GMA was formed in 1976 by MBA graduates of the University of Western Australia. Their desire was to maintain contacts and friendships made through the MBA and Executive MBA programs, and to continue relationships developed with the staff of UWA. The GMA also thought it was in the interest of alumni to ensure that the UWA MBA received the broadest possible recognition and conveyed an image of professionalism and excellence.

Today, the GMA's membership exceeds 700 and includes both students and alumni. It is a volunteer organisation made up of 10 elected council members, who meet regularly to plan events, provide feedback to the program's administrators and staff, and facilitate networking opportunities for members with the business community in Western Australia, Australia and beyond.

Our members continue to build a solid reputation for governance, managerial excellence, community service and increasing value to a wide range of organisations.

Since 2003, the GMA has had an official patron in Michael Chaney, UWA's Chancellor and one of WA's foremost business leaders.

With the integration of the Graduate School of Management and the School of Economics and Commerce to become the UWA Business School, the GMA is looking forward to interacting with the wider business faculty at UWA. I am proud to be serving our members this year and urge both MBA students and alumni to join the Association (read on to learn how).

MBA? Join us!

GMA membership is open to all graduates and current students of the MBA programs at UWA. We also have an associate membership for those who would like to become part of our community.

Why join the GMA?

After working so hard to earn your degree, wouldn't you like to maintain a connection with your friends, colleagues, and lecturers as you return to the business world with new ideas, or even embark on a new career?

One of the GMA's chief aims is to provide an ongoing link between MBAs, the program's staff, UWA, and the business community.

We on the GMA Council think it's important to keep these links alive well after you've completed your studies. Our logo, a knot with no end, symbolises this notion of "infinite links".

In the past several years, the GMA has built on a solid tradition of running great events for members that cater to both students and alumni, recognising the diversity of members from age and family status, to professional interests and scheduling constraints.

Our website, https://www.gma.asn.au/ , features our events calendar, secure online purchasing for event tickets, and online networking, which is designed to help members network with fellow students and alumni for job-hunting, professional development, or even finding lost friends.

For membership information and fees, head to our website at https://www.gma.asn.au/ .

There are also regular student events to welcome new students and close off each trimester. For all members there are monthly networking drinks at University Club. For more information on all upcoming events, go to our website at https://www.gma.asn.au/ .

If you are living outside Perth and would like to hook-up in person, or online, with other UWA MBA graduates, please contact us at [email protected] .

I look forward to seeing you soon.
