New Library website

The UWA Library is proud to unveil its new website. Completed in conjunction with the University Website Office, the new-look site aims to make library services and information easier to find and use. As part of this effort, the library has developed or introduced a number of new tools, including:

The Library has recently completed an upgrade to the CMO system. Although part of the upgrade was required for the server hardware and software architecture we were also able implement some significant enhancements that had been requested by students and staff in previous calls for feedback. After many years of planning the new UWA Science Library has officially opened.

The Science Library draws together the University’s library resources and services in life and physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, computing sciences and natural and agricultural sciences creating a major focal point for student learning and world class scientific research.

With carefully designed spaces, furnishings and equipment, it showcases contemporary thinking about academic library design.

Improving Access to E-books: EBL Pilot

During Semester 1, 2010 the Library will conduct a pilot to evaluate user selection of electronic books on the E-book Library (EBL) platform.  Current UWA staff and students will be able to actively select and purchase e-books from the Library catalogue.  EBL is an online product offering a large number of titles in all disciplines from many leading academic publishers.  UWA users will be able to select from over 110,000 titles when searching the UWA Library catalogue http://catalogue.library.uwa.edu.au/

The UWA Library will be hosting a number of events to welcome new staff and students to the 2010 academic year.  On offer will be a number of tours of Library buildings, including the new Science Library, a Q&A panel and dedicated information sessions for Research and Teaching staff, new postgraduate and mature-age students.

Eduroam now available in the Library

Eduroam allows non-UWA staff and students to access the internet wirelessly in the Library and at cafes on campus.  In addition, UWA staff and students can now use their UWA Pheme credentials to access the internet and connect to resources at UWA from over 500 locations in Australia and worldwide, including both Murdoch and Curtin Universities.
