There is nothing like experience. It is hard earned and invaluable to engineering practice.

There is no doubt that our engineering undergraduates would benefit immensely from the interaction with experienced engineers, to learn the lessons beyond engineering science.

It is also not hard to see that the EGA represents a deep and wide experience base in all forms of engineering.

So now you can see where this is heading. I am asking for graduates who want to pass on their wisdom to the next generation of engineers to contact EGA, so we can work out ways to make this happen. If you are interested then please contact me by phone on 6488 3111 or by email at [email protected] Please include EGA in the subject heading.

Lastly, engineers are the wealth creators of society. However, engineers on the whole do not go around crowing about their achievements. While the ideal of the quiet achiever was considered worthy in the past, I believe that it is no longer today. Engineers need to let society know the wonderful things they do. Not only so that they can get paid appropriately but more importantly so that the children of today will aspire to become engineers, so that they do not see it as a nerdy, lowly paid job. So I urge you as graduates to be involved in publicising our profession whenever you can. Let the community know that the wealth of the country is underpinned by engineers.
