The Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics would like to congratulate Mr David Hng on recently being awarded the Peter Fillery Award for the best student project at the 17th Annual WA Information Technology and Telecommunications (WAITTA) Awards on 14 March 2008.

Working closely with his supervisors, Dr Eun-Jung Holden from the Centre for Exploration Targeting (CET) and Associate Professor Rachel Cardell-Oliver from the School of Computer Science and Software Engineering, David’s project investigated image processing modules implemented, tested and embedded in GIS tools.

The project extends the functionality of exisiting GIS by allowing automatic detection of features of interest from geographical images and providing useful applications for the mining industry
