New courses given a start date

UWA’s new course structure – hailed as the biggest  academic change in the hundred year history of the University – will come into effect from 2012.

The implementation phase of the course restructure began after the decision of the Senate in December 2008 to approve the recommendations of the Review of Course Structures report: Education for Tomorrow’s World.

Now that 2012 has been confirmed as the Future Framework commencement date, a major task over the months ahead is to ensure that staff members are kept well enough informed to be able to engage constructively with course development and other transition planning.

Expressions of interest sought for new courses

The University of Western Australia is calling for expressions of interest from any group of staff members for offering majors in any of the new three-year undergraduate courses.

The courses are Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Design or Bachelor of Science.

It deals in particular with the relationships between units, levels and majors.

The University of Western Australia will be replacing the current complex structure of multiple, different degree choices with a streamlined structure of just a small number of three-year undergraduate courses. A fourth (Honours) year will still be available to suitably qualified students.  All fields of study that UWA currently covers will continue to be offered under the new structure, though in different forms.

We have now begun the implementation phase of the UWA Future Framework set by our Review of Course Structures. An Implementation Committee is charged with ensuring that the necessary changes are made in a systematic, timely and appropriate manner, with adequate notice to all stakeholders.
