Discussion on how teachers can provide rich and sustainable opportunities to enhance classroom learning and thinking will be the focus of three leading education academics visiting The University of Western Australia soon.

Harvard Graduate School of Education academics, Dr Don Ritchhart and Mr Mark Church, and Ms Karen Morrison, Director of the Rosenkranz Centre for Excellence and Achievement at Bialik College in Melbourne, will talk about their work at The University Club of Western Australia from 1pm on Friday, February 15.

‘The Cultures of Thinking Project' in which they are involved aims to develop deeper understanding of classroom dynamics.  In the three years in which it has been operating at Bialik College it has yielded benefits including motivating and inspiring teachers, finding ways of broadening students' thinking, and increasing collaboration between teachers across disciplines and year levels.

Dr Ritchhart has written many books and articles and developed videos that explore how teachers foster understanding, nurture creativity and make thinking ‘visible'.  Mr Church is supporting teachers in creating meaningful opportunities for thinking and learning in the classroom.  Ms Morrison is interested in how teachers can best provide ways to engage students in a relevant and meaningful way.
