One of the world’s finest international pianists will perform works by Bach, Liszt and Schubert when introducing local audiences to The University of Western Australia’s new hand-crafted Italian Fazioli grand piano next month.

Russian-born Nikolai Demidenko will give a recital, Built on Bach, in the Keyed Up! Piano Recital Series.  This special debut performance on the Fazioli piano – which arrived at UWA’s School of Music last month – will take place in the Octagon Theatre on Sunday 29 July, 2007, at 5pm.

In just 25 years of production, the phenomenal Fazioli pianos have come to be considered by many as among the world’s finest.  Acclaimed by the great concert artists of our time, these pianos are hand-crafted in Sacile, Italy, with a yearly production of just 100 instruments.  UWA’s Fazioli concert grand (model F278) is a unique instrument made for specific acoustic environments such as the University’s venues.

Nikolai Demidenko, who studied at the Moscow Conservatoire with Dmitri Bashkirov, is a great exponent of the Fazioli piano and he is in good company, with Angela Hewitt, Piers Lane and Stephen Hough all expressing admiration for the instrument.  His Wigmore Hall recitals have included the six concert series Piano Masterworks and he plays regularly in the Great Performers series at the Barbican Concert Hall, London.

Tickets for the recital start at $21, and can be booked through BOCS on 94841133 (charges may apply).
