The University of Western Australia’s Institute of Advanced Studies next month will host the inaugural conference of the Australian Research Council’s Network for Early European Research.

The conference, to be held at the University Club from Tuesday July 3 to Saturday July 7, 2007, aims to foster innovative research and new connections between researchers, as well as promote interdisciplinary and international contacts and collaborations.

The conference will host nine guest speakers on topics relevant to scholars in medicine, Italian studies, travel and communication, intellectual histories, political science, colonialism, anthropology, history, European literatures, drama, and archaeology.

Speakers include Gene Brucker, Professor Emeritus of History at the University of California, and Professor Hal Cook, Director of The Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at University College London.

Other eminent scholars from Australia, the United Kingdom and United States will address the broader conference theme, ‘Networks, Communities, Continuities’.

This public forum and the symposium are sponsored by the Institute of Advanced Studies and the ARC Network for Early European Studies, UWA.
