United Nations internship takes Adil to New York

New York was bustling in September last year. The city hosted concerts by Adele, Beyonce, Kanye West and AC/DC. Stan Wawrinka and Angelique Kerber won the US Tennis Open, the Metropolitan Opera launched a new season, and the city marked the 15-year anniversary of 9/11.

And in amongst it all, UWA Master of International Relations student Adil Cader landed in New York.

Australia Day underwater speakers a success for RiverLab team

Researchers from UWA’s FutureLab RiverLab team combined science with entertainment on Australia Day in an attempt to explore links between neuroscience and biology.

The team set up a series of underwater speakers at Matilda Bay to allow revellers the chance to listen to music while swimming in the Swan River during Australia Day celebrations.

The music played through 135-Watt Clark Synthesis underwater speakers between the pontoons in Matilda Bay between 3 and 4pm, playing Triple J’s Hottest 100 and other music.

University Hall resident Samantha Cullen is part of the dynamic UWA duo competing in the 2017 National Youth Archery Championships. Together Scott and Samantha will represent Western Australia to compete with 175 junior archers in Melbourne. Competitors travel from across the state, country, New Zealand and Tonga for the six day long event.

The games have already begun with a range of competitions from short and long range target events, clout, cross country and head-to-head matches being played. The final championships will be played out on Wednesday night (12 April).

University Hall was proud to have both the men's women's team make it to their Grand Finals over the weekend!

Our Female ResClub Sports Rep, Ian Brady,  said the women's doubles team made it to the Grand Final after three wins and one loss. Kristin Holz and Hitomi Onoue played a fantastic game against Trinity with a close effort and win of second place.

The men's team, Ian Brady and Chris Mihaljevich, also played out some incredible games as they made it through to the Grand Final after two wins and two losses. They came in second place after playing against Trinity.
