I was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. I lived there for 19 years before moving to Perth. If anyone suggested studying abroad to me three years ago I would have said no without a doubt. I loved being at home in South Africa with my family, I never wanted to leave the safety net that was my home.

The competition is fierce this year amongst UWA’s Inter-College sporting teams. UniHall is off to a flying start with our teams taking out first and second place titles in a variety of sports.

The season began with the cross-campus run where our runners won 2nd and 3rd place. It was fantastic to see a squad of more than 30 residents take part by either running, walking or cheering on the team.

Shortly after the cricket team braved the heat and took out first place during the weekend competition! Go UniHall!

This month, technology company Mapizy, comes under the Mo4U agreement program as part of The University of Western Australia’s (UWA) campaign to engage with industry and bring expertise on campus.

Representatives from UWA and Mapizy officially formed a partnership last week, advancing in computer science research and making technologies more accessible to industry.

The partnership will be jointly led by UWA’s Head of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Professor Mark Reynolds and Mapizy’s Dr Mehdi Ravanbakhsh.

The University Hall community proudly raised over $2,500 for The World’s Greatest Shave this year.

Stelio Antonas, University Hall Residential Advisor, decided to run this event for the residential community to show their support for people suffering from blood cancer. Residents could get involved by shaving their head, colouring their hair or by donating to his fundraising page.

The head hunter and book author James Fairbairn visited University Hall (UniHall) to give the first career seminar in this year’s SPARK Series. “I want to make sure you can look back on your career and say ‘I lived up to my potential’”, James began his talk.

With over 5,000 interviews under his belt and 23 years in the recruiting industry, James spent the next 90 minutes sharing tips on what it takes to stand out from the crowd when job hunting.

I’m originally from One Arm Point Community, traditionally called Ardiyooloon, which has a population about 300, and is nestled by pristine beaches and ancient islands. My tribes are the Bardi Jawi, Mayala and Mangala of coastal and central Kimberley.

My sense of empowerment comes from the history of my home community.
