UWA Winthrop Professor of Marketing, Jill Sweeney, was recently awarded the ANZMAC Distinguished Researcher of the Year Award at the 2018 ANZMAC Conference Gala Awards Dinner, hosted by the University of Adelaide at the Adelaide Convention Centre on Wednesday 5 December 2018.
Four of the University of Western Australia’s brightest Master of Professional Engineering and Master of Data Science students were invited to take part in the WA Transport Related Student Thesis Presentation hosted by the Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and Management Ltd (AITPM) on 22 November.
With the numbers of Justices of the Peace (JPs) being commissioned in Western Australia dwindling, UWA graduates are urged to broaden their community service and volunteering experience by becoming a JP.
UWA graduate Malcolm Collier JP – who is Registrar of the Royal Association of Justices of Western Australia – said that, since January 2018, there had only been 55 JPs commissioned in WA.
“This barely covers the loss of JPs caused by change of personal circumstances, age and infirmity,” Mr Collier said.
The Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences would like to congratulate computer science and software engineering PhD candidate, Christopher Bartley, whose thesis paper on Data Science and Machine Learning has been accepted to one of the top three international artificial intelligence (AI) conferences in 2019, The Thirty-Third Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) Conference on Artificial Intelligence, held in Honolulu, Hawaii, USA.
Warden of Convocation Doug McGhie successfully completed the Ride to Conquer Cancer in early October. Each day saw the 800 plus cyclists pedalling into stiff sea breezes, and on Sunday into 70 km/h headwinds along the Warnbro Sound coast.
The Saturday evening in Mandurah was special as the head of the Harry Perkins Institute, Professor Peter Leedman, introduced top fundraisers and some particularly brave and inspirational cyclists, some of who were completing the challenge for their seventh time.
