Associate Professor Cosimo Faiello, from the Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (EMS) at the University of Western Australia (UWA), has been recognised among Australia’s finest university educators in the Federal government’s 2017 Australian Awards for University Teaching.
The awards, administered by the Department of Education and Training, were presented at a ceremony held at Frasers in Kings Park.

Fifteen year old Shuan Hern Lee has once again made the AMEB proud, this time winning
first prize in the Palmadoro International Piano Competition for Age 35 and Under, in Finale Ligure, Italy. He was also awarded the gold medal for the youngest finalist in this competition, where he competed against other concert pianists and professional musicians from Poland, Italy, Russia and Japan, all aged in their 20s and 30s.
PhD student Gavrielle Untracht who is studying optical and biomedical engineering at UWA will be competing in the national finals of the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition in Queensland in October after winning the competition at The University of Western Australia.
Leading autism researcher, Professor Andrew Whitehouse from The University of Western Australia and Telethon Kids Institute, has been awarded the most prestigious award in the country for young researchers – the 3M Eureka Prize for Emerging Leader in Science for 2017.
