At the 30th Annual General Meeting of the Friends of the Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, Convocation honoured long serving Committee member Elizabeth Frith for her support of the Friends for 30 years by presenting her with the Convocation Medallion.
Over the past year, members of Convocation Council have given a great deal of consideration to how Convocation can most effectively fulfil its purpose to “add value to the relationship between members of Convocation and the University of Western Australia.”
Conversation is an art. As an exercise of human skill it draws upon experience, creativity, sensitivity and empathy, all of which facilitate the sweet satisfaction which only two minds in sustainable harmony can evoke. Even several minds, attuned in similar fashion, may access this music of the spheres, but the likelihood is less because collectivism frequently induces competitiveness which is anathema to good conversation.
The University of Western Australia extends its deepest sympathy to family, friends and colleagues of Roger Smalley AM, Senior Honorary Research fellow at the UWA School of Music and one of the leading pianists, composers and teachers of composition of a generation, who has passed away in Sydney at the age of 72.
