As many of you know, the controversy surrounding the booking of the Octagon Theatre by the Australian Family Association for a speaking event featuring Dr Quentin van Meter led to my calling of an extraordinary meeting of the Academic Board to open up deep debate about the broader issue of the role of universities in providing a place for uncensored and robust discussion and debate on the many issues in society today.

Former WA Premier Colin Barnett has joined the UWA Public Policy Institute’s (UWA PPI) Advisory Board.

Mr Barnett’s appointment was announced at Tuesday’s PPI public lecture given by Productivity Commissioner Jonathan Coppel: ‘Rising inequality? A stocktake of the evidence’.

Dear colleagues

It’s the University’s current practice that staff work three state public holidays (Labour Day, WA Day and Queen’s Birthday) during the year, which are then taken in-lieu over the Christmas close-down period.  

However, following staff feedback that working on these days impacts work-life balance and the opportunity to take regular breaks throughout the year, along with the challenges of public transport options and childcare accessibility, the University would like to propose the following changes:
