It’s all-Scrabble-all-the-time in the home of Jegatheva “Jay Jay” Jegathesan, our school manager in the School of Physics. Jay Jay’s sons, Rahul, 14, and Radheya, 16, are competing in this year’s World Youth Scrabble Championships, which are being hosted by UWA this Saturday, 31 October.
Rahul and Radheya are among 130 of some of the world’s brightest young minds who will be testing their language skills against one another in the Bayliss Building this weekend.

Professor Wendy Erber, our new Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Professors Donna Cross and Susan Prescott, both of the Telethon Kids Institute, and Professor Peter Klinken of the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research were inducted as new Fellows through ordinary election.
Brand, Marketing and Recruitment and Admissions, both under the Community & Engagement Portfolio, have been successful in attracting new team members for new senior positions. These positions have been created to further the University’s standing in the marketplace, part of the University’s strategy to build a strong foundation for future growth and success.
The new positions in Brand, Marketing and Recruitment will report to the Chief Marketing Officer, Karen “Kcee” Carriero.
UWA Staff Sports Fun Day is coming up on 6 November and the School of Indigenous Studies’ (SIS) netball team can’t wait.
The reigning UWA staff netball champs are looking forward to a defending their title.
“Last year we may have drawn with someone, but, yeah, we’re otherwise undefeated,” laughs Brendon DeGois, student services officer and one of a group of SIS staff members who form the core of the School’s netball team.
“But the competition’s getting harder and we’re not getting younger!” he added.
Nominations are invited for the election of academic staff and general staff to the Academic Board. Elections will be carried out by postal ballot in these two categories. Research staff should apply in the relevant category according to whether they hold an academic or general staff appointment.
