As we approach the festive season and mark the end of another year, I would like to reflect on my first year as Dean of the Faculty and highlight some of the successes we have achieved throughout the year.
With the release of proposals from the Formal Governance, Discipline and Research Themes working parties, the One Faculty, One Future project moves into a phase of open consultation across the Faculty on their proposals.
As part of the One Faculty, One Future project, the Formal Governance, Research Themes and Disciplines working parties have today released proposals for comment from the Faculty. All staff are strongly encouraged to provide feedback on the proposals.
Inspired by the challenges associated with providing energy both now and for future generations, the UWA Centre for Energy (UWACE) has been established within the Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics.
The new Centre for the Mathematics of Symmetry and Computation (CMSC) has been established at UWA. The Centre will be the hub of cutting-edge research across the disciplines of Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science.
The ARC's Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities Funding (LIEF) scheme provides funding for large-scale cooperative initiatives, so that expensive infrastructure, equipment and facilities can be shared by researchers in partnered organisations.
The University of Western Australia's Motorsport team continued its successful run by claiming second place overall in the Formula SAE Australasia event in Melbourne at the weekend.
The event was won by Monash University while University of Wollongong took third place.
The Faculty is delighted to offer our congratulations to Professor David White, who won the Anton Hales Medal for 2010, recognising his contribution to Earth sciences.
The Faculty wishes to offer our congratulations to Winthrop Professor Cheryl Praeger who has been named Western Australia's 2009 Scientist of the year.
