Last week Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Johnson announced a three-year collaboration between the University and the Bloom Lab at St Catherine’s.

Doctors urged to be cautious when treating low testosterone

Doctors have been advised to exercise caution when prescribing testosterone treatment for older men with low testosterone and a history of cardiovascular disease, according to a position statement published today in the Medical Journal of Australia.

2017 Good University Guide

The 2017 Good University Guide (GUG) has been redesigned to focus specifically on the undergraduate experience, meaning all research and postgraduate related indicators have been removed from the methodology. The Guide now reports on indicators across three categories, as outlined below.

Graduate outcomes

UWA remained the top ranked university in Australia for the median salary of graduates ($63,000), and scored 69% for graduate employment.

Anthropologist, film maker and UWA graduate Michelle Bunting has more than a few strings in her bow.

Now a Learning Technologist with the Centre for Education Futures (CEF), Michelle’s combining her passion for teaching and creative flair to investigate how video can be used to engage and inspire students at UWA.

“I studied at UWA as a young mature age student. Studying anthropology was everything I hoped for and more. I loved immersing myself in different cultures, learning to see the world from different perspectives.

Update following UWA IT outage

On Friday UWA experienced an outage to its IT network causing the UWA Data Centre to go offline. On Friday evening after thorough investigations the cause of the issue was identified as a faulty data centre switch at the Data Centre. This switch was subsequently disabled and the network connection restored.  

As a result of the outage the data centre switch needed to be replaced urgently on Saturday night. Extensive testing on the new switch occurred on Sunday morning confirming the replacement had been successful.

UWA is pleased to offer staff free tickets to next week’s Bell Shakespeare production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Octagon Theatre.

A tangible example of our commitment to the community engagement strategic priority, UWA has forged a partnership with Australia’s only national touring theatre company alongside Sydney Opera House and Melbourne Arts Centre. The production will bring thousands of high school students to UWA.

The Faculty of Science celebrated its Rising Stars this month by inviting 10 early career researchers to present their research to the Faculty’s alumni, donors and the wider community. The top three speakers were chosen by the audience to receive a research boost from alumni donations.

From discovering new galaxies via the Square Kilometre Array radio telescope, to reducing cardiovascular disease with peptides, the inspired talks shared a common thread – impactful solutions to improve society.
