When Amellia Formby decided to pursue a career in Zoology, she was seven years old. She had no idea this would one day lead her to pursuing a 12,500 kilometre flight from Australia to Siberia in a microlight aircraft.
But this is what the UWA School of Biological Sciences Technician is currently training for in a bid to promote urgent action to save shorebird habitat along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway.
Amellia always knew she had a love for animals, but was never one of those kids who dreamt of being a pilot.
I wish to announce that Chief Marketing Officer Karen Carriero (Kcee) has accepted the position of Associate Vice-President - Communications, at the University of British Columbia.
Over the past three years Kcee has led a dynamic reform of the UWA brand and modernised how the University markets itself and recruits both domestically and internationally. The University will commence the recruitment process for a new Chief Marketing Officer in the near future and following Kcee’s departure in May, her direct reports will report to me until an appointment is made.

Being a Musician in Residence is a dream job says Shaun.

Through the initiative, volunteers can either contribute to research projects by donating or they can participate in helping researchers gather data.
“Once a community feels connected with a research project, they form a connection with UWA. Recent support for our successful crowd research projects is testament to this,” says Dr Campbell Thomson, Director of UWA’s Office of Research Enterprise.
