Four UWA students were recognised as recipients of Australian Computer Society (ACS) Foundation scholarships for 2009. The Certificates of Recognition where presented by Hon Troy Buswell, Minister for Science Treasurer; Minister for Commerce; Science and Innovation; Housing and Works and Patron of the ACS Foundation in WA at the ACS Foundation presentations on Wednesday 28 October 2009 at Parliament House.

The MAGICian robotics team, formed as a collaboration between The University of Western Australia, Edith Cowan University and Flinders University with support from leading defence contractor Thales, has been shortlisted as one of only ten teams from an international field to take part in the MAGIC 2010 International Challenge.
