Two marketing professors from The University of Western Australia's Business School have been honoured by the Australian and New Zealand Marketing Academy (ANZMAC).

Marketing Professor Geoff Soutar, an inaugural Fellow of the Academy, was named 2008 Distinguished Researcher of the Year.

ANZMAC Vice-President and Awards Committee Chair, Professor Janet Hoek, said Professor Soutar was a "gentleman scholar" who had supported many students and undertaken major administrative responsibilities while maintaining a distinguished and highly productive research program.

"The Academy holds Geoff in very high esteem for his countless contributions to the marketing discipline," Professor Hoek said.

Professor of Marketing Jill Sweeney was named a Fellow of the Academy - the 11th Fellow and first woman to be given that honour - in recognition of "demonstrated excellence in marketing research, scholarship, education and leadership".

Professor Sweeney's research into services marketing had been widely cited, she served on several editorial boards and her service to teaching was exemplary, ANZMAC President, Professor Mark Gabbott said.

"This recognition of two of our most distinguished Business academics comes at an exciting time for the University's Business School," UWA Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alan Robson, said.

"The School will be re-housed in a new purpose-built building soon, one that will facilitate curiosity, innovation and free-thinking - qualities more in demand than ever."
