The University of Western Australia has attracted a range of leading international speakers to a seminar on debt management in poorer countries.

External Debt Monitoring: Crisis Prevention and Resolution, will be presented by UWA’s Trade, Migration and Development Research Centre (TMDRC), from next Monday, August 13, 2007.

TMDRC Director Dr Abu Siddique said the seminar would bring together participants from 13 countries in the Asia Pacific region.

“The Centre aims to promote advanced research in trade, tourism, migration, globalisation and economic development,” Dr Siddique said.

“It brings together scholars of national and international importance and provides an important forum for debate on development-related issues.”

This Monday at 11.30am, Director of Debt Policy at The World Bank, Vikram Nehru, will deliver the seminar’s keynote address:  Debt Management and Performance Assessment in the Economics and Commerce Building’s Third Floor Conference Room.

The World Bank is currently developing a program to improve debt management in Low Income Countries (LICs) by strengthening their capacity and institutions to manage government debt in an effective and sustainable manner.
