One of the nation’s top journalists – The Australian’s Paul Kelly – will put the prime ministership of John Howard under the microscope when he delivers the Reid Oration at The University of Western Australia later this month (Tuesday August 28).

The free lecture – The Howard Decade: Separating Fact from Fiction - will examine what John Howard really stands for and discuss where the commentators have him wrong and where they have him right.

Paul Kelly was a previous Editor-in-Chief at The Australian and currently holds the position of Editor-At-Large.  He is also a regular commentator on the ABC’s Insiders program.

He has covered Australian governments from Gough Whitlam through to Howard and spent two decades working in the Canberra Press Gallery.

The annual Reid Oration was established by the Institute of Public Administration Australia in 1991 to honour Professor Gordon Reid’s contribution to public life.

Gordon Reid was a distinguished scholar in the areas of politics, public administration and comparative government.  He was Professor of Politics at The University of Western Australia for many years and also served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor.  From 1984 to 1989, he was Governor of Western Australia.

The Reid Oration 2007, presented by UWA’s Institute of Advanced Studies in collaboration with the Institute of Public Administration Australia (WA Division), is on Tuesday, August 28, from 6pm to 7pm at the University Club Theatre Auditorium.  All are welcome and no RSVP is required.
