The University of Western Australia has a continual roll call of awards, scholarships and prizes presented to staff and students.

Name: James Ledger, UWA Conservatorium of Music
Achievement: James Ledger and Paul Kelly’s album ‘ Thirteen Ways to Look at Birds’ has won an ARIA Award for Best Classical Album, after peaking at number 10 on the national charts earlier this year. Their album ‘Nature’ also took out the prize for Best Adult Contemporary Album. James Ledger is the Chair of Orchestral Composition at UWA’s Conservatorium of Music.

Name: Dr Emma Hamilton, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
Achievement: Dr Emma Hamilton has been awarded a Clinician Research Fellowship by the Raine Medical Research Foundation for her project Improving Outcomes for Patients with Diabetes-Related Foot Disease. The program is designed to encourage clinicians to develop their research capability while continuing their clinical duties.

Name: Associate Professor Andrea Quagliola and Senior Lecturer Emiliano Roia, Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education
Achievement: Associate Professor Andrea Quigliola and Senior Lecturer Emiliano Roia were announced as winners of the National Award for Residential Architecture for their ‘Cloister House’ design. Their house design is also one of three Australian homes to be shortlisted for the international Architectural Review AR House Awards.

Name: Adjunct Professor Nigel Bertram, Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Education
Achievement: Adjunct Professor Nigel Bertram has received a National Commendation for Residential Architecture (New Houses) for his ‘North Melbourne House’ Design in the 2019 National Architecture Awards. Hosted by The Australian Institute of Architects, the awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements and excellence in architecture.

Name: Professor Tim Inglis, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences
Achievement: Professor Tim Inglis has received the Jill Porteous Memorial Award at the WA Health Excellence Awards. Now in its fifth year, the Jill Porteous Memorial Award for Safety and Quality is awarded to an individual who demonstrates a substantial and sustained contribution to the achievement of continuous improvement in safety and quality at WA Health.

Name: Professor Yuri Estrin FAA, Faculty of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences
Achievement: Professor Yuri Estrin has been elected into the prestigious Russian Academy of Sciences as one of only 300 foreign members. The Russian Academy of Sciences was established almost 300 years ago and consists of a network of scientific research institutes from across the Russian Federation.
