One of sailing’s rising stars, UWA student athlete Zac Littlewood, was recently announced as the WA Junior Sports Star of the Year.

Zac took out the coveted award in a strong nomination field that included Rhiannon Clarke and Sophie White (athletics), Alexandria Choate (canoe slalom), Nikita Hains (diving) and Ben Popham (swimming).

The award comes after Zac was also named as a finalist in the category last year.

In winning the Junior Sports Star award, Zac joins a list of accomplished WA athletes that includes Samantha Kerr, who was crowned WA Sports Star of the Year for second time this year, world-class golfer Minjee Lee, and Olympic swimming silver medallist and fellow UWA student Tamsin Cook.

Although only early into his competitive career, Zac is fast becoming a yachting superstar, becoming Australia’s youngest open-class world champion at just 17.

He claimed third place in the World Junior Championships at Corpus Christi in the United States and capped his outstanding year when he was crowned National Youth Sailor of the Year at the Australian Sailing Awards.

Earlier this year, UWA Sport also announced the Bachelor of Commerce student as a recipient of the UWA Sport Excellence Scholarship.
