The University of Western Australia congratulates 21 of its graduates and five staff members who were recognised in this year’s Australia Day Honours List.

The Australia Day 2019 Honours List was established in 1975 and recognises the contributions and service by outstanding individuals across Australia. A total of 1127 honours were presented this year.

UWA graduates The Honourable Justice Michelle Gordon, the late Emeritus Professor Patrick Troy and the late Mr Stan Perron (UWA Hon Doc) were among 19 Australians across the country to be recognised on the prestigious list with a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC).

The Honourable Justice Michelle Gordon is a Justice of the High Court of Australia who has served as a Justice of the Federal Court of Australia. She has practised in state and federal courts principally in commercial, equity, taxation and general civil matters. She was recognised for her eminent service to the judiciary, and to the law, to legal education and judicial administration, as a role model, and to the community.

The late Emeritus Professor Patrick Troy was one of Australia's leading urban planners and an engineer who completed many influential works relating to urban and regional policy. He was recognised for his eminent service to urban and regional planning in Australia, to environmental sustainability and social justice policy, and as a mentor and role model.

The late Mr Stan Perron was an Australian businessman and philanthropist. He started his business career running a fleet of taxis in Perth, before building ice-skating rinks and enjoying a considerable career in business and investment, founding the Perron Group. He was recognised for his eminent service to the community through philanthropic contributions to a range of charitable organisations, and to the commercial property sector.
