The UWA Centre for Energy held a one-day workshop on Renewable Hydrogen Industry Engagement on Wednesday 16 January 2018.

Industry representatives joining the workshop included Mr Rowan Hill from Mineral Resources , Mr Raoul Abrutat from Fremantle Wind Farm , and Mr Matthew Martella from long-time collaborator Anergy Australia Pty Ltd . This workshop aimed to engage industry partners who are interested in hydrogen energy and other clean energy research activities at the Centre for Energy and to discuss the potential opportunities to produce renewable hydrogen and hydrogen carriers.

The workshop featured an overview of current projects undertaken by the Centre for Energy, a broad range of research activities related to the production and utilisation of hydrogen and hydrogen carriers from renewable resources and the outcomes from a series of projects funded by the ARC-DP, ARC-LP and Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), presented by Dr Mingming Zhu. Further discussion for future research collaboration and industry application was invited. Industry representatives were invited to tour laboratories and facilities in the Centre for Energy by Mr Zeno Zhang and Dr Mingming Zhu and viewed a practical demonstration of the ammonia-combustion experiments.

The industry partners were very impressed with the state-of-the-art research facilities and the variety of innovative research programs undertaken by the Centre. Acknowledging the funding support provided by the ARC, ARENA, Anergy Pty Ltd and other industry partners, Mr Dongke Zhang, the director of the Centre for Energy, is hopeful that this workshop will facilitate new initiatives that are of practical use to industry bodies.
