This September we ran our fourth consecutive intensive ten-day short course on Education in the Clinical Setting for a group of 29 visiting medical educators from Zhejiang and Shanghai Jiao Tong Medical Schools. During their visit, participants attended 17 interactive seminars from 10 different presenters on topics ranging from selection of medical students and medical course accreditation to assessment and feedback, assessment of professional behaviour, interprofessional learning, communication skills, and teaching and using the humanities in medical education. Our visitors also attended several visits to clinical and classroom settings to meet with and observe medical students engaged in learning activities and spent a morning in a general practice setting.
Evaluation of the course by the participants confirmed between 90 and 100% agreement that the course content suited their personal learning needs, they now understood more about clinical teaching and supervision and that the course has helped to identify areas of their personal teaching practice they wanted to modify. We look forward to welcoming another group of visitors next year.
