UniSport Australia (UniSport) has today announced a collaboration with Cycling Australia, incorporating areas of recognition, endorsement, and a framework for a working relationship between both organisations.

UniSport and Cycling Australia will work together to link the student-athlete dual career education and sport pathway with national and international high performance opportunities offered by Cycling Australia.

A key element of the agreement is the endorsement of the UniSport Nationals Div 1 cycling event as an official Cycling Australia National Championship.

UniSport Chief Executive Officer Don Knapp said the partnership is a significant step in recognising the student-athlete pathway in Australia’s sporting landscape.

“Cycling is a high participation sport in the university sector. Formalising our partnership with Cycling Australia increases opportunities for student-athletes to pursue their athletic goals, including at the UniSport Nationals,” Mr Knapp said.

Cycling Australia is the national governing body for cycling, overseeing the conduct of its Australian Championships and authorising the selection of participants and teams to represent Australia in its international competitions.

“We are delighted to be working closely with UniSport Australia,” said Cycling Australia CEO Steve Drake.  “We encourage our athletes to balance their sporting careers with studies and we feel this new partnership will further strengthen this link, while also providing students with a new sporting pathway.”

The organisations will take on individual obligations to ensure the smooth and successful running of domestic events, including UniSport Nationals and Australian Masters Games, as well as high performance and international events.
