Today, Des Tan (UWA Student and Sports Council President) engaged in a series of student-led presentation at the FISU Forum. The forum, hosted in Krasnoyarsk, Russia, brought together students from campuses all over the globe and exposed them to a series of personal and professional development workshops focused on student sport outcomes.

Mixing both student and university sport professionals, the forum tackled key topics of equality, governance, student engagement, corporate and personal brand and the value of dual career pathways.

The final day of the forum provided an opportunity for students to pitch a variety of university sport enhancement concepts to university sport professionals. Students pitched a variety of concepts that sought to increase campus participation, increase awareness of marquee events such as the Winter Universiade.

Of her experience at the world forum, Ms Tan said “I’ve had the incredible opportunity to be involved in this forum, and it’s been so fulfilling learning about different forms of governance and best practice from around the world. I’ve really enjoyed the chance to meet young people just like me, who are passionate about their sport and seeing it succeed, and I count myself incredibly lucky to have been selected to represent Australia and its values and success.”

UWA Sport General Manager, Ian Fitzpatrick said “Des has been a very active and valuable member of the wider team that has positively influenced sport at UWA. To see her have the opportunity to engage globally and represent UWA and Australia on the world stage was a great return for her efforts”.

Krasnoyarsk, in the heart of Siberia, will play host to the next Winter Universiade, to be hosted in March 2019. The forum provided a number of opportunities to test the progress of the local organising committee.

“The region's investment and engagement in the Games is nothing short of incredible. To see the facility developments, infrastructure projects and student volunteer program in full swing has everyone excited for the event” observed Fitzpatrick, Chef de Mission, Australian Uniroos
