Professor David Gilchrist of the UWA Business School has been researching the sustainability of providing disability services in the context of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) for five years.

The Commonwealth Parliament’s Joint Standing Committee on the NDIS has received evidence from Professor Gilchrist developed out of this work that will inform national policy moving forward. The Joint Standing Committee has also asked Professor Gilchrist to meet with the Committee a second time in order to further discuss findings.

“It is great to see this important contribution to public policy in Australia being recognised by our national parliament and impacting outcomes for hundreds of thousands of Australians” said Professor Gilchrist.

The NDIS is the biggest social policy implemented in Australia since Medicare was founded over 40 years ago and impacts approximately 450,000 Australians living with disability and their families and friends.

This is the first and only longitudinal study looking at the sustainability of Not-for-profit disability service providers in Australia.
