Dear Colleagues

As you are aware the University typically has a closedown period over the Christmas and New Year holidays.  This is an opportunity for staff to take a well-earned break and spend time with friends and family.

This year, the University Executive has decided to extend the closedown period by two days to provide a full two week break. Accordingly, the last working day will be Friday, 21 December 2018 and staff will return to work on Monday, 7 January 2019.

While this closedown period will mostly utilise public holidays accrued throughout the year, staff will also be required to take two days of accrued time in lieu of overtime, banked flexi-time, annual leave, long service leave or leave without pay.  I encourage you to discuss with your manager what the best leave solution is for you.

Further, the periods leading into and following the Christmas closedown present a great opportunity for everyone to take additional annual and long service leave and I strongly encourage staff to take advantage of their leave allocations during these periods. Annual leave can be booked through ESS.

Regards

Professor Simon Biggs
Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor
