324 local, national and international science and health research leaders converged on the 2018 Science on the Swan Conference in May.

Science on the Swan, of which UWA is a partner, is an annual health and medical science conference that brings together high profile international guests across a mix of fundamental, biomedical, clinical, health and social science fields. It also provides an opportunity for early and mid career researchers to showcase their own research and network with a range of specialists across multiple disciplines.

This year’s themes centred on three key areas:

  • The life course of chronic diseases
  • Brain development and mental health
  • Aboriginal health and well being

The purpose of the Conference was to showcase the very best of medical science and health research in WA, offer connection opportunities for researchers, and deliver effective and better health outcomes to the wider community, in partnership with industry and external stakeholders.

UWA affiliated guest speakers and panellists included: Professor Christobel Saunders, Associate Professor Hayley Christian, Professor Desiree Silva, Professor Gerald Watts, Dr Ashleigh Lin, Dr Shannon Simpson, Professor Jill Milroy, Professor Leon Flicker, Professor Danny Green, and Professor Gary Geelhoed.

Jennifer Currenti and Samantha Stiles also showcased their research during the Top Poster Finalists presentations.
