Yesterday (22 May) UniSport CEO Don Knapp announced UWA Sport General Manager Ian Fitzpatrick as the Chef de Mission of the Australian Uniroos World Winter Universiade team for the 2019 and 2021 campaigns.

Ian comes to the role with a wealth of experience, not just through UWA Sport, but also in a variety of sport environments including not-for-profit, commercial, consulting and service sectors.

The youth version of the Olympics, the Universiade, run by International University Sports Federation (FISU), has been a feature of the world sporting calendar for more than 50 years.

The 29th Winter Universiade 2019 will take place in Krasnoyarsk, Russian Federation from 2 - 12 March.

Speaking on his appointment, Ian is excited by the prospect of working closely in support of a team of talented Australian student athletes.

“The dedication and commitment from these student athletes is world class and I look forward to providing an environment where their hard work can see them grow as students, athletes and people through the World Winter Universiade experience.”

Former Australian volleyball player, University of Technology Sydney’s Liz Brett, has been named as Chef de Mission for the Summer Universiade in Italy.

Student athletes for the Winter Universiade will be selected by UniSport selects in consultation with the relevant National Sporting Organisations.
