UWA Hockey men’s and women’s teams have continued their strong starts to the Hockey WA Premier League season, after coming up against Curtin at Perth Hockey Stadium last Friday (27/4).

Defending men’s Premier League champions UWA were in strong form as they dealt Curtin their sixth straight defeat of the season, cruising past with a 10-1 victory.

UWA started strong after Josh McEvoy fired a penalty corner to captain Chris Bausor who was able to deflect it in from close range to start the scoring.

Just three minutes later Alex Wood made it 2-0, firing a strong reverse stick shot past Curtin’s Sam Hewitt-Dutton.

Although Curtin challenged several times as the game wore on, they were unable to break through a tight defence, with UWA sticking to a process and style of play that earnt them a resounding victory.

Meanwhile, in the women’s game, the two university teams were evenly matched as they played out a goalless draw.

UWA shot-stopper Talei Forrest was in excellent form, denying a range of chances that looked like certain goals.

Both games were live-streamed to hockey fans across the country via Hockey WA’s YouTube channel.

The men’s team will next square up against Old Guildfordians Mundaring Hockey Club, while the women will play host to Melville in their next game.
