Despite being only 19, UWA student athlete Aidan Read already has a season of the Blancpain GT Series Asia to his name.

Now Aidan is looking to make his mark on 2018, teaming up with the experienced Darryl O’Young at Craft-Bamboo Racing.

His first major race of the season came over the weekend (14-15 April), at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.

With the unknown factor of the Porsche 911, Aidan started race one well, pushing the car to fifth spot early on.

However, with a slow pit stop switch to driving partner O’Young, Craft-Bamboo Racing team ended the race 11th.

With the pairing starting further back on the grid for race two, there was difficulty maintaining their position, with the Porsche slower than many of the competitors on the track.

Aidan was able to bring the car from 17th to 14th by the end of the race, showing the class and skill of his driving despite the difficult conditions.

Aidan had a busy pre-season program, which included working with Porsche factory driver and Le Mans winner Earl Bamber, as well as racing a McLaren 650S GT3 in the Thailand Super Series.

Rounds of the Blancpain GT Series Asia will continue in Thailand and Japan before concluding in October in China.
