Swallows and Amazons
, Arthur Ransome was a colourful figure in the literary world and beyond.
Swallows and Amazons
continues to hold a place in the heart of many children and adults around the world.
Bill Warnock, a Perth author, playwright and UWA affiliate, was a long-time admirer of Ransome and collector of his works. In the early 2000’s, prior to his passing, Warnock generously donated The Ransome collection to the Special Collections UWA Library.

So starts the adventures of The Swallows and the Amazons. Centred around groups of children on their summer holidays in the Lake District, Arthur Ransome’s icon 1930’s children’s series, depicts imaginative tales of pirates and explorers, sailing, swimming and camping.
See works from this Collection, including first edition copies of the
Swallows and Amazon
series, various works by Ransome and Warnock, a hand written letter and photograph from Ransome to Warnock and much more, on display in the exhibition cabinets on ground floor of the Reid Library.
