The UWA Cricket Club have broken a 43 year Grand Final drought to face arch-rivals Claremont-Nedlands in the 2017/18 WACA Premier Cricket 1st Grade Final.

Despite originally finishing sixth in the regular season table, UWA put forth a strong display during the finals series to reach the Grand Final. This included downing third-placed South Perth in the semi-final.

The game started off poorly for UWA, collapsing to 5-78 early on as South Perth’s bowlers began to get on top. However, a sensational 100-run partnership to Matthew Birrell and Joshua Mason turned the tide of the match back in UWA’s favour.

UWA students Sean Stuart and Josh Dallimore then put in the damage with the ball, tearing through the middle order, leaving South Perth all out for 145. Student athlete Dallimore had a particularly strong game, taking figures of 4-41 with his final wicket ending the game.

The last time UWA reached the 1st Grade Final, Western Australian captain John Inverarity led the side to a win against Scarborough.

The final will be a two game match played 24-25 March at the WACA Ground. Entry to the match is free, so head down and show the team some support.
