Battery recycling tubes are now available across 25 locations on the Crawley, Nedlands and QEII campuses.

Dispose of any batteries which will fit in the tubes, including those from mobile phones, laptops and cameras.

Batteries placed in the recycling tubes will be processed to recover plastics and metals, some of which are used to manufacture new batteries.

For information on battery recycling tube locations, see the map of the Crawley / Nedlands campus and map of the QEII campus. A detailed list of locations is available here . These battery recycling tubes are shared facilities for all staff and students.

Batteries should not be placed in general waste or recycling bins. The Hazardous Waste Act 1989 classifies used rechargeable batteries as hazardous waste, meaning they cannot be disposed of with general household waste. In addition, household batteries contain toxic metals such as cadmium, mercury and lead, which can be harmful to the environment when disposed of to landfill.

More information on battery recycling can be found on the Planet Ark website . For more information about the battery recycling tubes on campus, email [email protected] .
