The University of Western Australia has a continual roll call of awards, scholarships and prizes presented to staff and students.

To recognise these achievements, a monthly article is published on the UWA news page on the website and in UWA Forward on the first week of every month. If you know of any great awards or achievements across the University please email [email protected]

Name: Ryan Bunney, UWA researcher from the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research (ICRAR).
Achievement: Ryan was awarded a Westpac Future Leaders Scholarship to undertake a PhD in data intensive astronomy, translating radio astronomy applications and algorithms to work on high performance computing clusters. The scholarships are valued at more than $2 million, providing recipients with up to $120,000 for research or coursework studies at graduate level.

Name: Brooke Krajancich, UWA Bachelor of Philosophy (Hons) in electrical engineering and maths graduate
Achievement: Brooke was awarded an inaugural Knight-Hennessy scholarship at Stanford University to undertake a PhD in electrical engineering. The new scholarship program is open to anyone worldwide for all graduate degree programs. Brooke was the only Australian to win one of 49 scholarships offered this year.

Name: Brendan Ma, UWA biomedical science graduate has won a position on the 2018 icare Graduate Program
Achievement: Brendan is one of six graduates chosen from more than 650 applications received from across Australia. icare is a NSW government insurance company that gives graduates the opportunity to work on projects and in teams that are shaping the future of insurance and care.

Name: Associate Professor Amir Karton, UWA School of Molecular Sciences
Achievement: Amir has received the Next Step Initiative (NSI) award from the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE) for establishing successful and fruitful research links with China. Amir will visit Nanjing University, Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics, and North China Electric Power University to further strengthen the research collaborations between UWA and China.
