Colleagues

On Monday the Federal Government released its mid-year budget update which included $2.2 billion worth of cuts to the higher education sector. These significant budget cuts were widely anticipated by the sector after the Government failed to get its budget measures through the Parliament.

We are currently working to understand the full impact on UWA. I will be contacting the Minister’s office this week to seek clarification on aspects of the changes. It is also my understanding that the Government will need to pass new legislation to implement some of its proposed changes. We will continue to work closely with our national peak bodies, the Group of Eight and Universities Australia, to oppose the changes and seek a full review of the current system.

Sincerely,

Professor Dawn Freshwater

Vice-Chancellor
